The Bourne Ultimatum

by Chris on August 18th, 2007 @ 6:00 pm - Tag (Movie Review) 1 Comment. 32 Views

It’s rare for a sequel to be any good.  I’ve enjoyed all the Bourne films but i didn’t think the second was quite up to the standards of the first.  So when i saw that Paul Greengrass was the director again i didn’t hold much hope, but i was proven wrong.
Jason Bourne is coming home and it fucking rocks.

The Bourne Ultimatum
In what i hope is not the final installment of the Bourne films, Jason tries to find out where it all started.  It’s absolutely loaded with action from start to finish.  The Bourne films are renowned for there car chases and The Ultimatum delivers the best of all three.  There is also a truly amazing on foot chase through the streets and buildings of Tangier.  Credit to the director for making the on foot chase…well…a chase.  There is none of the free running crap that seems to plague action films these days.

Bournes arsenal of weapons also counties to grow, the most notable addiction in this film is a book.  Yep, a book.  I wont spoil the scene for you but i for one will make sure i have a book in my room from now on.  This is a ‘Smart Action” film and they can be made or broken by the leads love interest.  A plot can be destroyed by a 10 minute sex scene (sorry I’m over puberty i don’t care for it when people still need killing).  Paul Greengrass chooses only to hint at the feelings between Bourne and Nicky Parsons,  It truly is a near perfect action film.

The film ended with me on the edge of my seat, which is rare.  I was actually worried about Bourne, but a cheeky smile soon appeared on my face which was shortly backed up by a cheeky one from Nicky Parsons.  I’ll leave you to find out why ;).

I can’t rate this film enough, GO SEE IT NOW…no really go now.

The Simpsons Movie

One of the few films i wanted to see this year was The Simpsons movie.  The trailer left me in hysterics when i first saw it in the cinema.  Sadly i can’t say the same about the full film.  It gave me very few laughs, the jokes seemed strung out to fill the extra time a movie has over it’s TV show counterpart.  The animation  was good as you’d come to expect from the Simpsons but it really lacked the same impact as the 20 minute cartoon.  If you only watch the Simpsons once in awhile I’d recommend giving this film a miss, you’re not missing much.

Live Free or Die Hard

Live Free or Die Hard

Last night i saw the new Die Hard film.  This time around the old school cop John McClane is up against an ex government security adviser, who decides to plunge the USA into the dark ages by taking down the entire computer and technological structure that supports the economy of the United States.

I have to admit when i saw the European title (which i refuse to use) and heard the plot was based on cyber-terrorism and issued with a 15 certificate, i was dreading how the film would turn out.  Thankfully within the first 20 minutes all my worries were put to rest, as Bruce Willis achieves what i considering to be a Die Hard film equal to the first.  The action is solid through out and loaded with classic John McClane one liners. One of the best being “you just killed a helicopter with a car” “I was out of bullets”. I can also tell you the only line that truly matters in a Die Hard film is put to awesome use, but you will be kept waiting for it.

I highly recommend this film to any Die Hard fans.  You will not be disappointed.
