10,000 Gamerscore

by Chris on September 21st, 2007 @ 5:21 pm - Tag (Games) 1 Comment. 326 Views

CrazyMaccie Xbox Live 10k
I love my 360, i really do. I’m a hard core PC Gamer at heart but the xbox 360 has broken down my fan boy like hate for consoles. It’s become the first console ever to get my full attention. Everything just feels so natural. Maybe this is what Microsoft intended, to get us PC Gamers into another market. If so i think they did a damn good job.

Recently i hit the 10,000 gamer points mark, so i figured i have the clout to now write a little about my opinions on gamer points and achievements. I think achievements are a fantastic idea but they need some solid rules behind them. My idea of achievements is to show gamer skill and accomplishment of a game. An Achievement point for killing 500 people online is ridicules and for most near unachievable within a month or two. This i imagine was added in by the publishers in the hope of prolonging the life of a game. It does not show an ounce of skill at a game, just that you have way to much free time. It helps fuel peoples epenis size. For anyone who hasn’t put a headset on in awhile epenis size is massive on public servers.

KingKong might be a bad example and has without doubt earned the name of Easiest 1000 gamer points, but the achievements are given out to you for completing the game. What it does not do is dictate how you should play the game. For example “Get 100 Head shots with a Pistol”, great so i have to carefully aim 100 shots to get an achievement and most likely miss out on some fun in the game. I might not even want to use a pistol. Achievements should all be achievable from a single play from the start of a game to end, with the expectations of difficulty levels. In fact that leads me onto another point. If i complete a game on hard should it not also unlock the achievement for finishing it on easy and normal? Why should i have to play the game twice more.

It would be nice to see some rules from microsoft on how achievements get dished out and the complete destruction of unachievable points, “Play against the Dev’s” has always been a favourite of mine.

“What about the PS3?” Simple, i can’t afford it. I’m sure it’s an awesome console but the price is out of my range for something that only plays games (as a games pc owner blueray is pointless to me, i stream everything from my PC to my TV).

Ward Fest 07

Normally i wouldn’t write about my drunken antics because…well it’s boring to read for anyone who doesn’t personally know me or was there. But this weekend just gone i was invited to the Wards house for a little par-tay (Good family friends). I rarely get to see any of them, sometimes 2-3 years gaps. I’m not sure why, hopefully that will change. After all without Harry and Alan i would never have be introduced to Grand Theft Auto…that’s the game not the actual crime.

Ward Fest 07
As i was considered the outcast here i started off slowly, till Harry knocked some sense into me and explained that my idea of “starting off slowly” was stupid, then promptly poured me some hot wine stuff. There was also a live baned on who were fucking great. So much so that in my drunken state i believe i brought up my link to guitar hero and throw out a card. So they must have been pretty go for me to actually get off my arse and attempt to talk :). The Bootleg Lilos i think they were called, i did have a button but i believe i traded it for a kiss with a pretty lady…or a beer, either way i had my mouth around something cold. Hopefully i will catch them playing again around London.

Ward Fest 07
After that the night pretty much became the normal bog standard BLUR. One thing i do remember is on my travels to the toielt of bladder relief this pretty big guy was banging on the window. Naturally i smiled like an idiot and offered him a beer while banging back on the window, he returned my kind gesture by smiling and then slamming an Environmental Health Office badge against the window. Crap :|. Now you have to understand this house is in the middle of know where and backs onto a field…they have no neighbours. So how these people heard the music i don’t know, even with the wind carrying the sound i can’t believe it was all that loud. But i was drunk so what do i know :).

Ward Fest 07
So time for my list of thanks and apologise. Thanks to the Ward family for a fucking great party it’s one i will remember for a long time to come (same again next year?). Thanks to Harriot for giving me a lift home…sorry i was so quiet i was so damn tired and sorry for the cardboard like hug i gave you before i left. Also sorry for not offering the sofa to any of the girls that ended up sleeping on the floor :( once my head hit that pillow i was out. Though I do feel a little less guilty about that after someone told me you had plans to kick me off the sofa…gits :).

Hope to see you guys again soon.

Games this month

Looks like it’s going to be a busy month for gaming. Today we have the release of Stranglehold, which is pretty much Max Payne with John Woo’s magic touch, Chow Yun Fat’s voice acting and hardboiled action :) EPIC WIN.

Next week we have NHL08 and it’s better then ever, the controls are tight and it’s the best looking hockey game to date. Most importantly it now has a decent online mode and customization options. The Demo is available on Xbox Live.

On Monday we have the beta release of Team Fortress 2, I’m still unsure about this one…I’m not all to keen on the style but we will see. But the biggest game this month without question is going to be HALO3… but lets just say after HALO2 they need to pull off something pretty good for me to get my HALO back on. So far the screenshots, trailers and mp beta gace failed to impress…i guess we will see if bungie can turn HALO around for me.

Finally, today Fortress Forever was released…and it delivers :). I’ve been looking forward to this mod or awhile, it’s well worth checking out. The team has done a fantastic job at relighting the TFC fires in my heart >:).

NHL 07-08. London to open?

by Chris on September 2nd, 2007 @ 12:04 am - Tag (Ice Hockey) 1 Comment. 218 Views

NHL LogoAh, a reason to dust off the TV and bring in an extra crate of beer. The 2007-2008 NHL season starts at the end of this month, with the Anaheim Mighty Ducks and Los Angeles Kings squaring off against each other. But as you know I’m a Leafs fan, so why would i care about these two teams. Well the NHL i believe are trying to make the sport more popular (market) in Europe. So the season and the very first two games will be held right here in London at the o2 Arena. Awe-some.

This was apparently announced awhile back but i never heard anything about it, not in the news or on regular game broadcasts on NASN (Setanta Sports). I only just managed to get tickets for both days by selling my soul to the online auction sites. If anyone else is attending let me know, I’m sure i will be up for some drinks before and after the game. Should anyone happen to know someone that works at the o2 Arena and fancies getting me into the team rooms, I’d be a rather happy bunny :).

note to self: must find a pub that shows hockey game.

Site Updates

I’ve been fiddling around with my site and added a few new features. The comments will now display a little flag next to your name from the country you are from. The Users Online page also displays a country flag and IP address.

I’ve added bookmark links to the site, such as digg and del.icio.us You can find these along the bottom of each post called “share and enjoy”. Not my choice of words but i couldn’t come up with anything better :). I’ve also done an about page, It’s a bit rushed as i have no idea what to write. The Contacts page has had a little rework as well…i made icons and shit :).

oh yeah, one last thing…can anyone remember which way around i had the Categories and Tag Cloud?

Mafia II

by Chris on September 1st, 2007 @ 4:41 pm - Tag (Games) No Comments. 3 Views

Mafia II Logo

Something of a surprise is the announcement of Mafia II.  The original Mafia game was a truly awesome and i don’t think it got the credit it deserved.  In some ways it was a head of GTA as far a large living city goes.  It’s being produced again by Illusion Softworks and published by 2K Games, who have had a run of great games recently (Bioshock and The Darkness).  Anyway check out the trailer.  Looks to be a mix of CG and maybe in game render.
